This board carries one job family only: sterile processing
technicians, central sterile and central processing techs, SPD techs, instrument technicians, and endoscopy
reprocessing techs. Every listing links to the source posting it was verified from — the employer's own careers
site or a verified mirror of the posting — and carries the date it was verified live.
Why Sterile Tech Jobs?
General job boards bury sterile processing openings under thousands of unrelated healthcare listings, and employers
posting there reach mostly people who will never apply. This board lists sterile processing jobs and nothing else,
so technicians find relevant openings faster and employers reach the people who actually do this work.
Every listing is checked against its source posting before it appears here, and listing links are re-checked on a
schedule. When a posting closes and we can confirm it, the listing comes down.
What you can expect here:

A Board for One Job Family
Sterile processing goes by many titles — sterile processing technician, central sterile, central processing, SPD,
instrument technician, endoscopy reprocessing — but it is one specialty, and it is the only specialty this board
covers. Whether you are an experienced CRCST looking for a lead role or training for your first certification, the
openings, salary information, and study resources here are written for your work.

Sterile Tech Jobs is an independent job board. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by HSPA (the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association). CRCST, CSPDT, and CER are certification credentials administered by HSPA; CBSPD credentials are administered by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution. Always confirm certification requirements and exam details with the certifying body.

How to Become a Sterile Processing Technician
What sterile processing technicians do
Sterile processing technicians work in the department — called sterile processing, central sterile, or central service — that decontaminates, inspects, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes the surgical instruments and medical devices a hospital or surgery center depends on. No operating room runs without them: every instrument tray on a surgical case passed through their hands first.
The work follows a one-way flow: soiled instruments arrive from the OR for cleaning and decontamination, move to preparation and packaging (inspection, assembly, wrapping or containerizing), then sterilization, sterile storage, and distribution back to the departments that need them.
Step 1 — Meet the basic requirements
Most employers require a high school diploma or GED and the ability to work on your feet, lift instrument trays, and work around steam sterilizers and cleaning chemicals. Many states do not license sterile processing technicians, but some do — New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Tennessee have enacted certification requirements for central service technicians, with details that change; check your state's current rules. Employers in every state strongly prefer, and often require, certification.
Step 2 — Get trained
There are three common routes in. (1) A sterile processing training program at a community college, technical school, or private training school, which usually includes classroom work on microbiology, decontamination, and sterilization plus a clinical externship. (2) A hospital-based training program — some large health systems train cohorts of new technicians in-house. (3) On-the-job entry: some employers hire non-certified technicians (you will see those postings on this board) and expect certification within a set period after hire.
Step 3 — Earn certification
The credential most employers ask for is the CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician), administered by HSPA. HSPA's standard route requires completing a central service training course and 400 hours of hands-on experience; HSPA also offers a provisional certification route that lets you test first and complete the 400 hours within six months of passing. The other major certifying body is the CBSPD, whose CSPDT credential follows its own eligibility rules. Endoscopy reprocessing has its own credential, the CER. See this board's CRCST Certification Guide for the details and the required non-affiliation disclaimer.
Step 4 — Apply, and read postings closely
Job titles vary more than the work does: Sterile Processing Technician, Central Sterile Technician, Central Processing Technician, SPD Technician — and some health systems, such as Atrium Health, title the same role Instrument Technician. Levels I, II, and III, Lead, and Supervisor mark increasing experience. When you apply, note what each posting actually states: some state the certification, shift, and schedule in the posting; many do not, so confirm them with the employer. Every listing on this board links to the source posting it was verified from — the employer's own careers site or a verified mirror of the posting.
Preparing for the CRCST?
Start with the free 10-question practice quiz — original questions
written from the published exam content areas — then study with the CRCST study guide + practice exam pack for $79 when it opens.
What the CRCST is
CRCST stands for Certified Registered Central Service Technician. It is the entry certification for sterile processing administered by HSPA (the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association, formerly IAHCSMM). Employers across the country list it by name in job postings — including on this board — because it verifies that a technician understands decontamination, preparation and packaging, sterilization, storage, and the regulations behind them.
Eligibility — two routes
Route 1 (full certification): complete a central service / sterile processing training course and 400 hours of hands-on experience in a central service department, in the roles HSPA specifies. Route 2 (provisional certification): pass the exam first, then complete the 400 hours of hands-on experience within six months of passing; the certification converts to full once HSPA verifies the hours. Application fees, exam fees, and experience documentation requirements are set by HSPA and change over time — confirm the current figures and rules on HSPA's official site before you apply or pay anything.
What the exam covers
The exam is built from HSPA's published content areas, which is the same outline this board's practice quiz and study materials are written from: cleaning, decontamination, and disinfection; preparation and packaging; sterilization process; equipment identification and care; storage and distribution; quality assurance; safety and risk management; and professional conduct, regulations, and workplace communication. Expect a computer-based, multiple-choice exam administered at testing centers.
How to prepare
Work from the content outline, not from 'real exam questions' — legitimately obtained copies of live exam questions do not exist, and anyone selling them is selling you a problem. Use a structured study guide and practice questions written from the published content areas (this board's free 10-question practice quiz is a starting taste, and its $79 study guide + practice exam pack is built the same way). If you want a full formal course, HSPA-recognized programs and providers such as Purdue University's online program and ed2go offer them at higher prices; see the affiliate disclosure on this page if this board links to them.
Keeping the credential
Certifications must be renewed — HSPA certifications renew annually with continuing education (CE) credits and a renewal fee. The exact CE count and fee are set by the certifying body; confirm the current requirement with HSPA. Build CE into your year instead of scrambling at renewal time.
Preparing for the CRCST?
Start with the free 10-question practice quiz — original questions
written from the published exam content areas — then study with the CRCST study guide + practice exam pack for $79 when it opens.

This page publishes only pay figures that employers state in their

usually leave pay unstated; travel staffing postings usually state it. Until employers post pay, treat any website quoting a
precise "average sterile processing salary" with suspicion — ask for the pay range during the interview process instead.

Post a sterile processing job
Your posting goes in front of sterile processing technicians only — no generalist board noise. Recruiter placement fees run 15–20% of first-year salary ($8k–$12k per hire): one hire from a $195 post pays for years of postings.

Sterile Tech Jobs (steriletechjobs.com) is a job board for sterile processing technician positions in the United States. Listings summarize openings and link to the source posting they were verified from — the employer's own careers page where available, or a verified mirror of that posting. The source posting is the authoritative source for duties, requirements, schedule, and pay. We re-check listing links on a schedule and remove listings we confirm are closed, but we do not guarantee that any listing is open at the moment you view it.
Job-alert signups, quiz results, and employer submissions are provided as-is. Employers are responsible for the accuracy of jobs they submit. Full terms are being finalized; by using this board you agree to use it only for lawful job-search and hiring purposes.
Privacy Policy
Full policy being finalized.
We collect only what the board needs to work: job-alert email addresses and the alert preferences you choose, CRCST quiz emails and scores, study-pack interest emails, and the contact details on employer post-a-job submissions. We also keep anonymous per-listing counts of job views and Apply click-throughs so employers can see interest in their postings — those counts carry no information about who clicked, and applications themselves happen on the employer's own site, which we never see.
We do not sell your personal information, and we never publish subscriber or employer contact details on the public site. Job alerts use double opt-in, and every alert email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. A full privacy policy is being finalized; to ask about or delete your data, contact the board operator through the Post a Job page.
